HOSTEL RULES AND REGULATIONS

(COMMON TO BOYS AND GIRLS)

1. Application for admission to hostel shall be made in the prescribed form which can be had from the Hostel Office.
2. Allotement of rooms shall be made by the Deputy Wardens under the orders of Warden.
3. Students must occupy the rooms allotted to them and should not change/exchange rooms without prior permission from the Deputy Warden/Hostel Authorities. Violations of this rule will result in the Expulsion of the student concerned from the hostel.
4. Resident Member may be shifted from one room to another without assigning any reason by the Deputy Warden.
5. Hostel Furniture shall not be removed from one room to another under any circumstances. Students are responsible for the care of furniture and fittings in their respective rooms. The cost of furniture and fittings will be recovered from them in case of any damage or loss along with the fine of Rs.1000/-.
6. Students are not allowed to use extra electrical fitting in their rooms unless permitted by the Hostel Authorities.
7.All the rooms, doors and windows should be kept neat and tidy. A fine of Rs.2000 will be levied for disfiguring of doors, glass panels, Furniture and walls of rooms from the resident(s) of the room in addition to the amount needed for repairing and repainting the above.
8. A Collective fine of Rs.3000 /-will be collected from the residents of the respective wings/floors for disfiguring Veranda’s and Bathrooms in addition to the amount needed for repairing the above.
9. A Collective fine of Rs.5000 /-will be collected from the residents of respective blocks for disfiguring the common rooms or damaging the public property of hostel blocks, in addition to the replacement cost.
10. Students should keep the toilets and bathrooms clean, failing which a collective fine of Rs.3000/- will  be collected from the residents of the respective wings/floors.
11. Residents are instructed to switch off the lights and fans when they go out of  the rooms, to save electric power. A fine of Rs.250/- per day will be collected from the residents of the rooms, who violate this instruction.
12. Guests /Visitors are not permitted to enter any rooms allotted to the residents. Anyone who violates helps to violate this rule will be levied a fine of Rs.1000/- and will be evicted from the hostel by the hostel authorities.
13. If any misuse of computers and mobile phones in hostel rooms is brought to notice of Hostel authorities the respective resident(s) will be expelled from the hostel.
14. Students should not arrange any functions or meeting within the hostel /collage campus or outside the campus, without prior permission from the Principal and Warden.
15. Any student who is removed from the college will automatically cease to be a member of the hostel.
16. Accommodation in the hostel will not be given to students who are not active boarders in the hostel.
17. No student should stay away from the hostel on any day without the prior permission of the concerned Deputy Warden/Associate Warden/Principal and Warden.
18. Abnormal activities of any nature causing disturbance to neighbours should not be carried out in the rooms.
19. Students should not paste any posters /pictures etc on the walls, doors, windows and shelves. Cut-outs should not be placed or brought in the hostel.
20. Student should not keep large amount of cash or costly items like mobile phones, camera, Electronic gadgets, jewellery etc. in their rooms. Hence complaint about loss or theft about such costly items is discouraged.
21. Married students are not eligible for hostel accommodation.
22. Students should not keep Mopeds, Motor cycles, Scooters and cars in the hostel premises.
23. Students should settle in their rooms at 9 pm at studies on normal days and at 10 pm on free night days (Saturdays and Sundays) & maintain silence. 
24. Girl students should return to the hostel before 6.30 pm and boys before 8 pm on all days. 
25. The hostel will be personally inspected by the Deputy Warden and other authorities regularly. The residents will be subjected to sever disciplinary action if they fail to follow above mentioned rules and regulations.

                                      EXTRACT OF ACT NO.7 OF 1997

  An Act to prohibit “Ragging” in educational institutions in the state of Tamilnadu.

SHORT TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT:

1. i) This act may be called in the Tamil Nadu Prohibition  of Ragging Act 1997.
    ii)  It extends to the whole of the State of Tamil Nadu.
    iii) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 19th day of December 1996.

Definition:

2.  In this Act  unless the context otherwise requires, 'Ragging' means display of  noisy disorderly conduct doing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension  or fear or shame or  embarrassment to a student in any educational institution and includes,      
a)  Teasing , abusing of ,playing practical jokes on ,or causing hurt to such students /or 
b)  Asking the student to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course, willingly do.

Prohibition of Ragging:
 
3. Ragging within or outside any educational institution is prohibited.

Penalty for Ragging :

4. Whoever directly or indirectly, participates in abets or propagates “ragging” within or outside any educational institution, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years and shall also be liable to find which may extend to 10000 Rupees.

 Dismissal of student:

5. Any student convicted of an offence under the section 4 shall also be dismissed from the educational institution and such student shall not be admitted in any other educational institution.

Suspension of student:

6. 1) Without prejudice to the foregoing provisions, whenever any student complaints of ragging to the Head of an educational institution, or to any other person responsible for management of the educational institution, such head of the educational institution or person responsible for the management educational institution shall enquire into the same immediately and if found true shall suspend the student, who has committed the offence, from the educational institution.

   2)  The decision of the Head of the educational institution or person responsible for the management   of educational institution is final if any student has indulged in ragging under sub section no.1

BOARDING RULES:

1. The Hostel month will be from 20th of the preceeding month to the 19th of the current month (Both days inclusive).The mess bill will be put up on the notice board by the 1st of the succeeding month .All hostel bills should be paid before the 19th of that month positively.

2. For late payment a fine of Rs.50/-(Rupees Fifty only) will be collected up to 25th .After 25th and up to the end of the month , a fine of Rs.100/-(Rupees one hundred only)will be collected.

3. From first of next month, the defaulted boarders will be expelled from the mess (not permitted to dine in the mess) till he/she clears mess dues with fine .An admission fee of Rs.200 /-(Rupees Two hundred only) will be collected in addition to the mess bill and fine .If he/she is expelled for three times he/she will not be permitted to stay in the hostel further. Readmission is permitted only three times during the course of study.
4. If any student discontinues from the hostel it will be intimated to the government and the scholarship will be provided only to active boarders.

5. Deatils of the mess bill will be displayed in the hostel mess notice boards. Students should check the details   and clear the dues within the due date.

6. Bill particulars will also be given in the mess dues intimation card sent to the parent. Non receipt of the intimation cards should not be given as a reason for delay in payment.

7. No reductions will be given for absences in the mess .Only on special cases a reduction is permitted with due permission from the Principal  & Warden and Deputy Warden well in advance, preferably before 2 days

FOR GIRLS HOSTEL

 Inmates will be allowed to go home once in a month only if parents give written requisitions stating the reason, duration of stay etc. They will be permitted to go home only for valid reasons; the parents should apply to the Deputy Warden directly for permission to send their daughter to the home. The Girl students are not permitted to go to guardian’s house for overnight stay unless there is a specific written requisition from parents.

Only 3 authorised visitors (including parents) are permitted. They should have the visitors cards with photo affixed (and signed by the Associate Warden) when they call on their wards. Visitors are requested to visit their wards only during visiting hours.

Girl students should return to the hostel before 6.30 p.m.

Roll call with be taken at 6.30 p.m.

Students should not keep large amount of cash or costly items like Mobile Phone, Camera, Electronic gadgets etc in their rooms. If there is any loss, the management will not be responsible.

Girl’s students are advised not to wear costly jewellery items.

Girl’s students are permitted to go out during holidays for a maximum duration of 6 hours after signing in the register kept for the purpose. They have to get prior permission from the Deputy Warden, if they want to go out for a duration exceeding 6 hours and limited to 8 hours.
